See the Midrash about Moshe Rabbeinu looking down history. Moshe doesn’t understand the Torah that Akiva is teaching. I think Moshe asks Hashem why He didn’t pick Akiva to give the Torah, instead of himself, Moshe.
The Midrash is admitting that Torah changes through the ages, but it is still Torah. I don’t agree that we are just holding the place. This is exactly what we are supposed to be doing, just as the Jews did in the time of the Geonim and the time of the Mishna.
Loved Star Trek. I haven’t watched every episode, but I’ll have to watch this one.
The Crowley scene in A Movable Feast really makes you shake. When Hemingway was good he was good. I wonder if Crowley has ever appeared in any Star Trek episodes anywhere..
I agree with most of this, albeit somewhat grudgingly, but... Mashiach will "fulfil the Law"?! That sounds very Christian. Religious Jews "fulfil the Law." Mashiach will gather in the exiles and bring world peace.
I don't see why we can't all continue pronouncing Hebrew differently in the messianic era. Israelis seem to get by with different pronunciations and accents.
Also, I don't think it's a terribly good episode of Star Trek, but I'm not American (although my wife and daughter are). Don't hate me!
I hope that didn't sound mean! I am in a bad mood today, as you may have seen on Notes. Nothing personal, just feeling worried about the world and the place of the Jews in it.
Love it. TOS is really a tale in a rambam lite messianic future where the earths people have gotten along based on accepting shared old school robust JFK liberal values.
Hence Kirk not believing in leaving societies to their values. Al la alon bloom, he would hang the practicers of sutee.
TNG much closer to the dead end of modern abandonment of value ranking.

Someone clearly hit it hard at the kiddush club this weekend 😂

Yeah, that fulfill the law. Comment might’ve been something left over from my Christian upbringing…

No problem. I’m always happy to hear from you, plus I could see why that episode wouldn’t land with a Brit😆
